Progress on the "Tea" fire here in Santa Barbara is pretty good, some people are being let back in to affected areas. The fire continues to burn, but mostly up into the mountains ... understandably the first priority was keeping the fire away from houses. The 40% that's contained represents the southern boundary, so the city of Santa Barbara is safe now.
The bad news, however, is that another big fire has exploded across northern Los Angeles about 70-80 miles away. The strong, dry winds that fueled the Santa Barbara fire on Thursday have shifted and are now causing the LA fire to race across hills. The new fire is already 50% bigger than our fire and has forced the evacuation of at least twice as many people as well. If you hear bad news about a Southern California fire in the next few days it will be that one.
