All over but the mopping up

Just a quick final update on the Jesusita fire, it is effectively over. The weekend was cool and damp and there was very little wind, so the firefighters switched from defense to offense and have basically put the blaze out. Everyone in town was allowed to return to their homes yesterday. Reports on the ground indicate that around 100 homes were lost, but hundreds were saved by the intense efforts of firefighters protecting them while burning embers rained down on the neighborhoods near the fire.

I imagine there are still smoldering roots or other hotpots up on the mountain which the firefighters are still making sure are out cold, but for all intents and purposes the fire is over. The other bit of good news going forward is that the three fires we've had in the last 10 months now form a protective band around the city, so we should be okay for a little while ...
