Gender question

Funny story ...

At the end of June I switched my old CA license for a new one here in Mass. It was about to expire after serving me for a very long time. In fact, it still had the picture on it that the DMV took when I was 15 1/2 for my learner's permit. I'd gotten a lot of smiles and laughs from TSA employees during all my traveling over the last year for that youthful picture, thankfully they always let me on the plane anyway.

So now I finally have a grown up license that looks like me. And what does the Registry of Motor Vehicles do? Somehow, despite what was listed on my CA license and the fact that I'm standing right in front of the guy while he's entering things in the computer, somehow I'm presently listed as a female on my license. Seriously.

I finally noticed this while pulling my license out while searching for an insurance agent over the last couple days (for our brand new Prius! pictures after we pick it up on Monday). It was only when reading my license number to like the 5th agent I talked to that I noticed the card listed me as female. In the month and a half I've had it, I've flown at least 5 times, rented a car, bought a car, and talked to a bunch of insurance agents. No one had said a peep!

When I called back an insurance agent I'd talked to earlier in the day to double check his rates, there was a lull in the conversation while he was running some numbers and I thought I'd share this joke with him about being listed wrong. He busted out laughing, and was quite relieved actually. Imagine the following in a thick Boston accent: "Oh man, I was wondering ya know. I mean, a woman named Joseph with a deep voice, I'd decided that now I'd seen it all!"

Yeah. So I wonder how many other people's horizons I've unknowningly expanded over the last month and a half. Thanks RMV ...

Best laugh this week!! We'll never know if the RMV employee was just bored or a poor typist. Please do keep us posted on what it takes to get the license fixed...

Just out of curiosity, does your new DL picture show you as clean shaven or not?

My license picture has significantly more than a five o'clock shadow on it :)
